A Future Leader Takes a Stand!

17th Apr 2026

Here is a lovely example of how children take inspiration from the world around them. One pupil went home and after seeing news coverage of the fuel protests on television and in the newspapers, created a handmade poster using plywood and markers to protest “No more homework!” at Killyhommon. This then inspired a light‑hearted “fuel protest” during break and lunchtime.

While this was done in fun, it shows something important. The current events our children are exposed to are teaching them that people can express opinions, stand up for what they believe in and make their voices heard in peaceful and creative ways.

This moment sparked a valuable discussion about having a voice, explaining ideas and understanding that opinions can be shared respectfully. It also highlights how learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door; children are constantly observing, questioning and making sense of the world around them.

Experiences like this help our pupils develop confidence, communication skills and an understanding of citizenship. Encouraging them to talk about what they see and how it makes them feel helps turn current events into meaningful learning opportunities.

It was wonderful to see the confidence and creativity involved, showing early signs that Tadhg has the potential to be a great leader in the future.
