Birdwatching in P3/4 🦅 🦉
3rd Feb 2026
Primary 3 and 4 have enjoyed taking part in this year’s RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. They researched different types of birds and listened to the calling sounds. We then went searching for what birds we could see around our school. The children enjoyed using binoculars to see the birds a bit closer and we also used an app called ‘Chirpomatic’ to listen to each bird to make sure we were counting the correct species.
We were very lucky to have Emmett from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council come and visit us last week. He told us all about the most common garden birds that you might find in our area. He was very impressed with the children’s knowledge of different bird species. The children made some fruit bird feeders that they took home to put up in their gardens. They can reuse these again and again to help keep the birds fed, especially during these cold winter months.
